Jon Jones became a two division champion after tapping out Cyril Gane in the first round of their heavyweight fight. If there was any debate as to who is the greatest UFC fighter of all-time, it was put to rest on Saturday, as Jones improved his MMA record to 27-1. Next up Jones will likely be Stipe Miocic, which should make for an epic battle between two of the top fighters to ever grace the Octagon.
The Jones/Gane fight wasn’t very close, as Jones only took one real shot during the whole bout, which was an illegal kick to the groin. It wasn’t long before Jones cornered Gane and secured an early takedown, locking him up in a guillotine choke against the fence. The fight was short, clinical and somewhat anticlimactic, only lasting two minutes and four seconds.
In the co-main event, dominant women’s flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko lost in shocking fashion via fourth-round submission to Alex Grasso. Shevchenko’s record fell to 23-4 and Grasso’s improved to 16-3.
