UFC 283 took place in Rio De Janeiro on the 22nd of January, featuring five main card fights and ten preliminary card bouts. FInd below the results for all fights and recap of the main and co-main events.
Main Event- Jamahal Hill def. Glover Teixeira via UD
In the main event, former UFC champion Glover Teixeira squared off against Jamahal Hill for the vacant light heavyweight title. The UFC light-heavyweight division had been without a champion since the start of December, when Jiri Prochazka vacated the title with a shoulder injury.
Hill dominated most of the bout, throwing a record breaking number of strikes on his way to winning via unanimous decision. Despite a couple of big takedowns, Teixeira was unable to do any serious damage with his ground game, which seemed to be his only chance of winning the fight.
Although Texeira was able to absorb a significant amount of damage, the scorecard was all Hill, who won the standout game convincingly. This was Hill’s maiden title in this 8th UFC fight. He’s the first athlete to win a championship after earning a UFC contract through the Contender Series.
After the fight, the 43-year old Brazilian Teixeira, announced that he would be retiring from professional fighting. A former champ, Teixeira has spent over a decade in the UFC, winning 16 of his 23 fights.
Co-Main Event- Brandon Moreno def. Deiveson Figueiredo via 3rd-round TKO
In the co-main event, Mexico’s Brandon Moreno was able to beat Brazil’s Deiveson Figueiredo to collect his second undisputed flyweight championship. Moreno won via TKO after stunning Figueiredo with a powerful left hook that opened a large gash below his right eye. The swelling eventually caused his eye to shut, leading to the doctor calling the fight in the 3rd round.
This was the fourth fight between the two, with Moreno winning two, losing one and drawing in the other.
