Veteran running back Andrew Harris has officially been re-signed to the Argos roster for the 2023 CFL season. While the exact details of the contract weren’t divulged, the agreement is expected to keep the 35-year old in Toronto via a one-year deal to defend their Grey Cup title.

Harris rushed for 490 yards on 114 carries and added 23 catches for 180 yards in the eight regular-season games he dressed up for last season.  Unfortunately Harris missed 10 games with a torn pectoral muscle but made his return in time for the postseason.

In the East Division Final Harris rushed for 42 yards on nine carries which included a pivotal touchdown to beat the Montreal Alouettes. He had another 55 yards on the ground on 10 carries in the Grey Cup Final.

Harris who is 5 ’11 and weighs in at 216-pounds will be entering his 13th CFL season in 2023. His illustrious career has seen him part of four Grey Cup winning teams and is the league’s top-rushing Canadian of all-time with 10,151 yards. He is the sixth player in CFL history to pass the 10,000 yard rushing mark. Harris led the league in rushing three times between the years of 2017-2019.

In his career, Harris has rushed for five 1,000-yard seasons and has 599 career catches for 5,402 yards and 32 touchdowns through 184 career regular-season games. He is a five-time CFL all-star and won the award for the league’s top Canadian in 2017. In 2019 he became the first player in league history to ever be named both the Grey Cup MVP and the Grey Cup top Canadian in Winnipeg’s 33-12 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

With Harris back in the side for one more ride the Argos know they have an experienced running back to lead their run game. While he might not be on the backend of his career, he still has plenty of explosive power left and could be the difference between taking home the Grey Cup title once again.
