With the 2022/23 NBA regular season set to get underway on October 18th, picks and predictions for which teams will be able to rack up the best records are beginning to pour in. This is why we came up with our list of the top 5 teams, based on our expert opinions, entering the new season.
Golden State Warriors
Last Season’s Record- 53-29, 3rd in West
Notable Additions- Donte DiVincenzo, JaMychal Green
Notable Losses- Otto Porter Jr., Gary Payton II
The defending champs enter the new season with a very similar roster to last year. It will be on other teams to prove that they can dethrone the Warriors as they will be expected to make the playoffs easily and be in pole position to go back to the Finals.
Boston Celtics
Last Season’s Record: 51-31, 2nd in East
Notable additions: Malcolm Brogdon, Danilo Gallinari
Notable losses: Daniel Theis
The Celtics grew in leaps and bounds last year as the young team made their first trip to the NBA Finals. The addition of Malcolm Brogdon into the mix at guard should be a big bolster in the position, adding both a scoring and passing threat. We expect Boston to be right in the thick of things in the East and potentially come out of the regular season with the #1 seed.
Los Angeles Clippers
Last Season’s Record: 42-40, 9th in West
Notable additions: John Wall
Despite a disappointing 2021-22 campaign, the Clipper enter this year as one of the biggest threats to take home the title. This is mainly due to the recovery of all-star Kawhi Leonard who should return to the team after being out all of last season. The team also added veteran point guard John Wall, who is expected to be a big playmaker on the team.
Phoenix Suns
Last Season’s Record: 64-18, 1st in West
Notable Losses: JaVale McGee
The Suns had the best record in the leagues last year, posting a 64 wins and only losses during the regular season. With a largely unchanged team, the Suns are expected to post a similar number of wins this time around and should be amongst the top teams in the West come playoff time.
Milwaukee Bucks
Last Season’s Record: 51-31, 3rd in East
Notable Additions: Joe Ingles
With the core trio of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday still in place for the Milawaukee Bucks, the team will fancy their chances at making another deep run this year. The 2020-21 champs were able to keep most of their key role players as well, which should see some improvements from last year as the team begins to gel.
