The 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks 21-13 Thursday night to clinch the NFC West, punching their ticket into the playoffs. This was the first time the team had been able to win the division since their 2019 campaign.

This win marked San Francisco’s 7th consecutive victory, which is the longest running streak in the NFL at the moment. It also marked the first time San Francisco has been able to sweep the Seahawks in a season since 2011.

While the Niners improved to 10-4 on the season, Seattle’s playoff hopes took a major blow as they sunk to 7-7. The Seahawks only hope now for qualifying into the postseason rests with a wildcard berth but all four teams in the NFC East; the Eagles, Cowboys, Giants and Commanders, are all ahead of them in the race.

It was another strong showing at the starting QB position by the last pick in this year’s NFL Draft, Brock Purdy. He was able to complete 17 of his 26 passes for two touchdowns and no interceptions, leading his team to touchdown drives in all three of the first three quarters. Tight end George Kittle was at the receiving end of both touchdown passes by Purdy, finishing with 4 catches for 93 yards.

Also having a standout day was Niners RB Christian McCaffrey who had 26 carries for 108 yards and a touchdown on the ground. McCaffrey also had six catches for 30 yards through the air.

The Seahawks scored their only touchdown when Seattle QB Geno Smith connected with Noah Fant on an 11-yard pass with 3:35 remaining. The touchdown cut the lead to within one score but ultimately didn’t leave enough time for the Seahawks to reclaim the ball, as the Niners ran out the clock.

What’s Next for the 49ers & Seahawks?

The Niners will be hosting the Washington Commanders on Christmas Day at Levi’s Stadium. Washington will be desperate to stay in the wildcard race in the NFC and the Niners will be jostling for home field advantage come the playoffs.

The Seahawks will have a pivotal game against the Kansas CIty Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. The game will likely decide if Seattle can maintain an outside chance of making the postseason.
