The Toronto Raptors fell late to the Denver Nuggets on Monday night, losing 118-113 on the road. Toronto’s NBA regular season record fell to 32-34, holding their 9th seed position in the Eastern Conference. The Raps had a chance to overtake the Atlanta Hawks in 8th with a win on Monday.
Jamal Murray led all scorers with 24 points on 9-14 shooting which included five from deep. Jokic fell one short of yet another triple-double with a scoreline of 17 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists.
On Toronto’s side of the ball, all starters were in double figures, as Fred VanVleet led the way with 21 points and 14 assists. Pascal Siakam and Jakob Poeltl chipped in with 19 and 18 points respectively. The Raps’ bench had 31, mainly off the hands of Gary Trent Jr. with 13.
Both teams shot 50% from the field and were good from 3-point land, both shooting above 37%. The real difference in the game came down the stretch as Jokic and Jamal Murray took control of the game in the final couple of minutes to edge out Toronto.
Toronto had a six point lead with 2:20 left in the fourth quarter but couldn’t get stops on the defensive end, giving up 9 free throw attempts in the last two minutes.
The Raptors will be kicking themselves after playing exceptionally well against the top team in the Western Conference during the first 45 minutes of the game. The road trip won’t get much easier with the Raptors heading to Los Angeles to take on the Clippers next, followed by the Lakers and then the Nuggets again.
Raptors Vs Nuggets
The Raptors will be continuing their road trip with a visit to the LA Clippers on Wednesday night. The Clippers have been in a rut as of late, losing seven out of their last ten games, falling to the 8th seed in the Western Conference. With Kawhi Leonard and Paul George healthy however, the Raps should have their hands full.
