Toronto FC finalized a contract with Norwegian forward Adama Diomande through 2024, with an option for 2025. The 32-year old journeyman has played for a number of teams across globe including Lyn, Skeid, Hødd, Strømsgodset, Stabæk, Hull City, Los Angeles FC, Cangzhou Mighty Lions, Al-Sailiya, Al-Arabi, and Odd.

In his most recent stint, Diomande played with Norway’s Odds BK but has also played under Toronto head coach Bob Bradley at Norway’s Stabaek (2015) and Los Angeles FC (2018). In his tenure with LAFC, he was able to produce 24 goals and 11 assists in 52 appearances, through two plus seasons.

Diomande burst onto the MLS scene in 2018, after scoring nine goals in his first seven games, which included the first hat-trick in LAFC’s history. He earned the MLS Player of the Month honours in July 2018 and went on to be an integral part of the 2019 Supporters’ Shield winning team.

The Norwegian made his professional debut with Lyn in 2008 and followed up with successful campaigns with IL Hödd and Strømsgodset, notching a total of 34 goals in 79 games. He then went on to spend two years with Dinamo Minsk in Belarus, before he joined Stabæk, where he scored 25 goals and added three assists in 26 appearances.

Born in Oslo, Norway, Diamande has also represented the Norwegian national team, appearing in 11 matches for Norway, including five FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He only managed to score one goal in his international career in a 4-1 win over San Marino, in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Diomande is known for being a reliable striker who can create smart runs, has an athletic presence and the natural ability to finish in the box. He should have an immediate impact on TFC’s offensive side of the ball, forming an attacking presence to coincide with Lorenzo Insigne, Víctor Vázquez and Sebastian Giovinco.

Toronto FC will begin their 2023 campaign on February 9th against the Vancouver Whitecaps on the road. For a full schedule of upcoming TFC fixtures check here.
