With Super Bowl LVII in the books, we have now had 23 Super Bowl games in the new millennium, many of which carry memories which will last our lifetimes. But which NFL Super Bowls were the best? Find below with our ranking of the best five Super Bowls since 2000.
#5 Super Bowl XLIII (2009): Pittsburgh Steelers 27, Arizona Cardinals 23
Super Bowl XLIII was marked by the historic 100 yard interception return by James Harrison just before halftime and the Larry Fitgerald magic which gave the Cardinals the lead late in the fourth. Ultimately, the hard fought game was won by the Steelers with an amazing toe-tap catch by Santonio Holmes’ in the corner of the end zone.
#4 Super Bowl LVII (2023): Kansas City Chiefs 38, Philadelphia Eagles 25
That’s right, this year’s Super Bowl makes the list at number four, mainly due to how evenly matched the two teams were. The battle of two of the best young quarterbacks in Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts was a battle that will be remembered for a long time to come. The Chiefs victory ended with Mahomes getting the Triple Crown of Super Bowl Champion, Super Bowl MVP and NFL Regular Season MVP.
#3 Super Bowl XLII (2008): New York Giants 17, New England Patriots 14
Super Bowl XLII had the undefeated Patriots take on the huge underdog New York Giants looking to become the first-ever NFC Wild Card team to win a Super Bowl. The game was decided by the famous ‘helmut-catch’ by Giants wide receiver David Tyree, which extended the drive and which ended up scoring the go-ahead touchdown to win the championship. It was one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history.
#2 Super Bowl LII (2018)– Philadelphia Eagles 41, New England Patriots 33
Led by quarterback Nick Foles, the Philadelphia Eagles pulled out an unlikely victory over the mighty New England Patriots just five years ago. The game was close throughout, with New England even taking a 33-32 lead going into the fourth quarter. The standout play in this game came was a touchdown catch by Zach Ertz, who bobbled the ball at the goal line. The play was extensively reviewed and ended up being the winning score.
#1 Super Bowl LI (2017): New England Patriots 34, Atlanta Falcons 28
Our pick for the best Super Bowl since 2000 is the Patriots crazy comeback win over the Falcons in 2017. Down 28-3 at one point, the Patriots led by Tom Brady made a furious fightback to win the game 34-28. It will forever be known as one of the biggest turnarounds in sports history.
