Just eight teams remain, vying for a trip to the Super Bowl this year and while there was loads of excitement on Wild Card weekend, there weren’t too many surprises in the teams which pulled through. The NFL Divisional Round on the other hand, is likely to provide a few more unexpected results. Let’s take a look at what’s in store.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Kansas City Chiefs (Saturday 21st January, 4.30 pm EST)
The Jags will be traveling to Kansas City for the 4:30 pm early start game on Saturday. If they have any hope of making it to the next round they will have to start off much better than they did against the Chargers in the Wild Card Round. Going down 27-0 against a team like the Chiefs would be an almost impossible hole to climb out of.
Despite Trevor Larence’s outstanding play, Kansas City are firm favourites in this matchup. Playing at home with the likes of Patrick Mahomes at the helm of the offense, should see the Chiefs get a rather easy W.
Prediction: Chiefs over Jaguars
New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles (Saturday 21st January, 8.15 pm EST)
In a NFC East divisional matchup, the Philadelphia Eagles will be hosting the New York Giants for a place in the NFC Championship game. Eagles QB Jalen Hurts will be coming off a shoulder injury which may dictate the fate of the team.
Hurts went 20-35, throwing for 229 yards with an interception and no touchdowns when he returned to action in the regular-season finale against the Giants. A similar showing might just be enough to punch their ticket.
Prediction: Eagles over Giants
Cincinnati Bengals at Buffalo Bills (Sunday 22nd January, 3 pm EST)
The Bengals/Bills game is expected by many to go the distance, with both teams in great form entering the postseason. The QB battle between Joe Burrows and Josh Allen is a mouthwatering proposition, which will likely decide the fate of the game. Expect the offensive lines to play a big part, as quarterback protection may tell the difference at the end of the day.
Prediction: Bengals over Bills
Dallas Cowboys at San Francisco 49ers (Sunday 22nd January, 6.30 pm EST)
In arguably the closest of the Divisional Round games, the Dallas Cowboys will be visiting the red hot 49ers in San Francisco. This will be the ultimate test for Brock Purdy, as the rookie QB could make a name for himself by knocking out the Cowboys at home. Dallas on the other hand, will look to impose their defensive presence and put Purdy under pressure from the get go.
Prediction: 49ers over Cowboys
